Universal Children's Day: the importance of protecting them so they have a better future

Today is celebrated on Universal Children's Day, a key date to raise awareness of children's rights and raise awareness of the importance of working every day for their well-being and development. The November 20 for being the date on which the UN General Assembly approved the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959.

UNICEF reminds us that children are the most vulnerable group and therefore suffer the most from the crises and problems of the world. For them, it is important to take care of them and protect them so that grow in a better environment and have a better future.

This world day remember that all children have the right to health, education and protection, regardless of where in the world he was born.

All the children of the world have the right to freedom against discrimination, right to family, right to understanding, love, identity, education, housing, protection against war, freedom against child labor, health, play and self-expression.

Victim of War

We cannot forget a day like today the sad situation of millions of Syrian refugee children. It is estimated that some 250 million children live in war-affected areas and armed conflicts and that one in 200 children is a refugee.

They are innocent victims of war, children become protagonists of stories that they should not live and yet live them. Suffering, cold, hunger, death and despair is the only thing that many children know in their short life. A situation to which we cannot remain impassive.

"They are the most defenseless victims and suffer devastating consequences such as malnutrition, violence and lack of access to basic health, education and protection services," says UNICEF.

Fundamental Rights of the Child

Among the rights of the child, the five fundamental principles stand out:

  • No to discrimination: all children have the same rights.

  • The child's superior interest: Any decision, law, or policy that may affect childhood must take into account what is best for the child.

  • The right to life, to play, survival and development: all children have the right to live and have adequate development.

  • The participation: Minors have the right to be consulted about the situations that affect them and to have their opinions taken into account.

  • Right to decent housing: All children have the right to live in a suitable space for their development.

Memorial Doodle

As every year, Google wanted to join the celebration of this day dedicated to all the children of the world with a colorful doodle dedicated to the little ones.

It shows children from different parts of the world painting a landscape full of colors. We can see a mountain with the snowy peak, flowers, a rainbow, stars, clouds, stars and even a whale. An illustration full of color as the future that all the children in the world deserve.
