Nutrition, a subject to teach in primary education

Given the statistics on consumption habits, overweight and obesity and the poor nutritional knowledge presented by the population, it would not be a bad idea to follow the recommendation of the specialist Jaime Dalmau, member of the Nutrition and Metabolism Unit of the Department of Pediatrics of La Fe Children's Hospital in Valencia.

The expert tells us: "Nutrition should be a compulsory subject in primary education. You have to teach children to eat healthy and the best place to do it is schools, where they mimic what their classmates do. You have to instruct them not to eat out of time. A disciplinary meal regime is necessary; keep breakfast, lunch, lunch, snack and dinner five daily and banish pecking and goodies. "

If nutrition were a subject taught in classrooms since children were very young, some of the problems we face today would have a low incidence in the population and especially in the child population. Many experts warn us about the need to exercise and maintain a healthy and balanced diet, tips that are not followed despite the warnings provided. The ideal is then to teach nutrition classes to the little ones, according to the specialist, diets are effective reaching up to 40% of cases of obesity, however, up to 60% of cases, could be solved simply with the acquisition of proper habits and psychological support.

The psychological support is directed especially to the child population that reacts by eating compulsively to various situations that they may suffer in school, such as mockery or contempt. Children can mock another obese child, marginalizing him and making him feel more guilty and unable to solve his problem, these are the cases where psychological support can turn the situation around.

As the specialist says, all work requires time, nutritionally educating a child should be done calmly, with steps that are consolidated and never forced, since you can create an aversion to food. The creation of the subject of nutrition and healthy foods would be a good solution.
