Decalogue of the Mediterranean diet for children

  • Olive oil is your best friend to accompany salads, stews, snacks ...
  • Eat lots of plant foods.
  • Don't forget to drink bread, rice, pasta and cereals every day.
  • Take advantage of fresh foods, typical of your region. Especially in the case of fruits and vegetables, it allows us to consume them at their best.
  • Take dairy products every day.
  • Eat meat preferably as part of vegetable and cereal dishes.
  • Eat a lot of fish (at least twice a week) and eggs between three and four a week. At this point, we must remember that restrictions have recently been established regarding the consumption of certain bluefish by children and pregnant women.
  • Fruit should be your usual dessert.
  • Water is the most refreshing and healthiest drink. You should drink six to eight glasses of water a day.
  • Do exercise every day; It is as important as eating well, besides being fun.

Recall that the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) has recently established that children under three years should avoid eating large blue fish (sharks, swordfish or emperor, pike and bluefin tuna), and children between three and 12 years should limit to 50 gr / week or 100gr / 2 weeks.

We also emphasize that five servings of fruit and vegetables per day are recommended, and that although it seems a difficult amount to achieve, it is not so much if we incorporate them in each meal in varied ways.

Finally, we remind you of the decalogue of fruits and vegetables that complement this Decalogue of the Mediterranean diet for children that takes advantage of the best qualities of the best foods in the area for healthy eating.
