Science experiment with children: water absorption

What element do you use to clean spilled liquid on a table? Surely everyone uses something different: a towel, a kitchen towel, absorbent paper, a sponge, the sleeve of his sweater ...

Well, today we are going to make a experiment with children to discover how the liquid is absorbed according to the material with which we do it.

Water absorption experiment with children

First of all, you can ask your children to look for items at home that they think can absorb water. Then you cut them into individual pieces.

For example:

  • Kitchen paper
  • Paper of water
  • Sponge
  • Towel
  • Cloth
  • Clothes
  • Mop
  • You will also need an airtight container (type tupperware) to put the water.
  • Small containers (cups type) to drain the water from each material.

You put the water in the container and arrange the absorbent material around so they can pick it up. If you have a container with several containers, you can put the water in one of them and the absorbent elements in another.

Science experiment

Let the children experience and discover what they can do with the water and the absorbent element. If they don't think about it, you can help them squeeze the element into each glass to see how the water comes out and how much.

You can discuss how much water each element retains and why. Which is the element that has retained the most water and which is the least.

Stay tuned for their explanations, surely they are more logical than we would say!
