Owlet Baby Monitor: an (exaggerated) baby monitor

Naturally, parents want to protect our baby, make sure that it is okay and that nothing bad is happening. There are those who invent devices that I find somewhat excessive such as Owlet Baby Monitor, an (exaggerated) baby watch.

Owlet Baby monitor is a medical display. It is a kind of sock that is placed on the baby's foot to control its vital signs at all times. Monitor the heart rate, oxygen level, temperature and sleep habits of the baby, just in case he turns around when sleeping. In turn, it is connected to the parents' smartphone, who can see the values on the screen and be notified if any anomaly occurs.

Is it necessary to have a baby monitor of this type? In general, for healthy children I think it is not. We cannot become obsessed with the amount of oxygen it receives or the heart rate. It might be interesting perhaps for children with a disease or for premature babies whose evolution is being monitored when they get home.

Let us start from the basis that I consider that baby watches are expendable devices. In my case, that I slept with my daughters next to my bed during the first year of life, in some other cases, I could watch them just by spying on the cradle.

Skin-to-skin contact is the best method to regulate the baby's body temperature, heart rate and oxygen level. And you can see how comfortable he sleeps without even opening his eyes, just feeling it.

Do you see a baby watch as necessary? Owlet Baby Monitor? Would you buy it?
