"The education system is anachronistic", documentary by Eduard Punset

For some time now we have been talking about the need to renew our Spanish education system, paying attention above all to the symptoms that children show: many end up failing and before that, many children get bored and go to school demotivated.

As usual the program Networks for science, from Eduard Punset, touches the issue of the education of our children, focusing on some of the errors of concept of the current school, which are because the operation is still very similar to the type of education we receive, when society has changed a lot since then and when now much more is known about how our brain works and what is the best way to get someone to learn something: being happy, being motivated and doing things, more than memorizing them.

To talk about it, interview the education and creativity expert Sir Ken Robinson, which emphasizes the importance of the power of children's imagination, their creativity and consequently those subjects that have always been considered "second-class", such as dance, artistic drawing, music education, physical education, etc.

In a changing world, in which we have all learned the same and where having a university degree is no guarantee of anything, people with the ability to think, innovate and interact begin to stand out. If the traditional school does not teach to think (it does not do too much, because it seeks to learn to obey who is above you), if it does not teach to innovate (because the contents are given and are the same for everyone, suppressing greatly measure the individuality and potential of each child) and if it does not help to relate (the subjects that generate relationship, connection with our body, with the expression of emotions and feelings are those that are least valued), children will hardly stand out when reach adults and realize that most of what they have learned has limited them when it comes to showing what society needs, because they have been filled with “more of the same”.

The Internet has now become an instant source of information. Knowledge no longer comes exclusively from school and children are aware of it, able to search for the information they require or request it from the elderly. It then becomes a unique tool with almost infinite power when it comes to training our children who, in the current educational model, they run the risk of being limited especially in what motivates and likes them (No matter how much you like math, they won't do more in class for you, just as it doesn't matter how much you like physical education ... when the bell rings, it's over).

We recommend that you watch the documentary because, as always, surely many parents will be sensitized to a reality that exists and that they can help modify (or at least fight for it).
